Scarth Craig

How it started?

We were approached and asked to quote for continuing this project after it ground to a halt with a previous contractor. We took it over when it was really not very far on in the project, it was only partly framed inside the old original part, We constructed the upper floor timber kit and continued to take it to completion as per the Architectural drawings issued to us by Roundhouse Architecture, The ‘moongate’ doors as seen in the pictures were a part of the build the clients were very keen to have. We constructed them from scratch as per the suggested shapes discussed, the workings, finishes and were worked out by us and made on site.

Sun-room, library and Art Deco bar.

The semi circular seating in the bay window area were designed and constructed by us after discussions on site with the clients, there are drawers under each of the seats and small storage areas between the seats.

The clients, Mr & Mrs Davidson, were very keen to have a wall of library shelving for their considerable collection of books, this we made off site and then on site fixed them along one complete wall as seen.

The glass blocks again were a desired item by the clients, we sourced and fitted them in several areas in the building.

The Art Deco bar was made in our workshop and was in ours eyes a very good item to add to the feel of the house. A bar was a long desired idea by Mrs Davidson as she had purchased the picture above it previously and had a vision of it above ‘a bar in her house at some point.’ The design was Mr & Mrs Davidsons own thoughts and we did our best to create that for them.

We feel overall it was a successful finish achieved and indeed an enjoyable project to work on.

Gus - AW Cameron Joinery - was recommended to us to replace a main contractor who had let us down. From the outset, we were impressed by his positive attitude, and the way he assessed the work that had been done and how best to continue with the remainder of the job. We were also impressed with the way he combined technical expertise with a good eye for aesthetics, so that the finishes not only are technically sound but look good too.

Our home has some unusual features of a sort that Gus had never tackled before. Again, we were impressed by the way he set about learning about the new materials and methods and working out how to approach the tasks. We are very happy with the finished results. Gus and his team were easy to get on with, unfailingly helpful and always ready to do extra tasks to ensure that our home met our expectations.

Gus was always ready to chase up the sub-contractors to ensure that their work was of a high quality and carried out expeditiously. We would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Gus and his AW Cameron Joinery team for any job.
